Under the night lights in stadia around Europe, match day 3 of the UEFA Champions League kicked of with permutations already gathering momentum as to what teams could top their groups

CHELSEA were held to a 3-3 draw by ROMA at The Stamford Bridge in what was an engaging contest pitting the Champions of England with one the best attacking Italian sides in Seria A.

The home side went ahead from a brilliant right foot shot from defender David Luiz which curled away from the Roma keeper Becker.

Chelsea’s second goal was to come not too long after in the 37th minute from a counter attack, and Eden Hazard receiving a pass from Alvaro Morata slotted from the right side.

Both goals really came against the run of play as Roma had most of the possession and were bossing the midfield.

Di Francesco’s side have one of the best midfield in the Italian Seria A, with the Belgian Radja Nainggolan in superb form of late. However is was new signing  Aleksandar Kolarov from Man City, who halved the score before half time with a brilliant dribble and finish from the left side.

The second half proved to be even better entertainment for the traveling fans, as striker Eden Dzeko equalized for Roma with 64 minutes on the clock with an unbelievable left footed strike from a Federico Fazio’s cross that left Chelase’s keeper Courtois in no man’s land.

Dzeko would again prove to be deadly in the Chelsea penalty box as he headed from Kolarov’s inch perfect free kick, putting Roma ahead for the first time in the game.

At this point you could feel slight pity for the Blues fans who were hoping that their loss to Crystal Palace over the weekend would be put behind them.

Once again it was Eden Hazard who stepped up, with a deft header to the far left, leveling scores on night, with the result leaving Chelsea still topping Group C

The Champions League is filled with memorable moments, and another was made yesterday as Barcelona star Lionel Messi scored his 100th European goal, against Olympiakos.

His goal came in the 67th minute from a superb free kick after an own goal by Dimitris Nikolaou gave Barcelona the lead.
