“While it has not been all rosy, we note that despite the economic recession that Nigeria went through, it was still able to sponsor our education abroad and we are very grateful.”

The statement made by Jimmy Iwezu also brought to light the public activities of a group of fraudsters in the United States called ‘’A Few Faceless Fraudsters’’.

He stated that this said group of people use the social media platform to spread information that are misleading, malicious about their welfare as government-sponsored students in different institutions of higher learning in the United States.

He continued:

“We wish to disassociate ourselves from any attempt to tarnish the image of Nigeria in the U.S. through outright lies, falsehood and blackmail being peddled in the social media by a faceless group that has called on people to join them on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017, for a public demonstration against the government of President Muhammadu Buhari at the White House in Washington DC, USA.

“For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to put it on record that our allowances and tuition fees have been paid up to the month of September 2017 and the Amnesty Office has promised to pay up to November 2017 when the next payment is made.”

The students in their statement pleaded with people whose aim is to tarnish their image and that of Nigeria to desist from it. They termed them as ‘’Detractors and Sponsored Saboteurs’’. They said that the Officer of the Special Adviser to the President on Niger- Delta has done a remarkable job since 2015, and as such, all those evil perpetrators Intending to blackmail and distract the course should stop it.

They also appealed to the Government for sustainability of the programme, and to continue to ensure peace and stability in the Niger-Delta region of Nigeria.

Ex- Militant Amnesty Programme

According to Gen. Paul Boroh (rtd ), he said that the Amnesty Programme had no fewer than 30,000 ex-agitators from Niger-Delta that they are presently managing. Stating that the programme which started in 2009 had sponsored beneficiaries in various skill acquisition, education and entrepreneur trainings amongst others, adding that over 5,000 x-agitators have benefited within the past two years in areas such as aviation, maritime, oil and gas and agriculture, which has helped to stabilize the region.

He also stated that the Buhari Administration was committed to ensuring a peaceful and developed Niger-Delta region, which would invariably encourage investors movement into the region.
