They are alleged to have attacked the corporal, Aladejare Adedeji, in his car and relieved him of his service rifle which had 30 rounds of ammunition .

The gang were reportedly operating in the  Meiran area, and on spotting the officer in his car, attacked him and took away possessions from him, leaving him for dead.

The Zonal Intervention operatives were able to track the criminals and arrested the suspects.

The police team reportedly recovered the policeman’s AK-47 rifle, one cut-to-size double-barrelled gun, one single-barrelled cut-to-size gun and five live cartridges from the robbers.

Mr Owolabi who is the driver for the robbers, said that his role is principally to ferry them during their operations, two of which he was involved, including the one involving the policeman.

The AIG, Adamu Ibrahim disclosed that after the investigations, the suspects would  be presented before the Court to face trial.

This comes in the wake of the recent spate of attacks on police officers across the country.

The IGP (Inspector General of Police)  Ibrahim Idris, recently warned members of the force to be more careful as they carry out their duties.

This was a reaction to the attack and kidnap of a police officer few weeks ago, after which he ordered for a rescue operation which was successful in Niger State.
