Trouble broke out on Saturday when some thugs stormed Bola Sanga, venue of ‎the PDP congress in Oyo State, to prevent leaders of the party from progressing with their agenda for the day.

According to reports, the incident caused the party members to run for cover in the Oyo West LGA Divisional Police headquarters, Ojongbodu.

It was also gathered that in the course of the incident, a man who has been identified as Mr. Idowu Mechanic was killed.

The deceased was said to have been seated at the function in  Ile Gbenku area of Apinni with other party guests, and in the cause of the attack, he was allegedly stabbed for refusing to give the thugs money when they requested for it.

His remains reportedly have been deposited at a mortuary in one of the hospitals in the ancient town.

An eyewitness  revealed that ‎the thugs, on getting to Apinni area of Oyo East, attacked anyone on sight, which lead to the unfortunate death of the deceased.

The thugs were still on a rampage last night as it was learnt, but despite that, it did not stop sympathizers from besieging the health facility at Araromi area of the town, where the corpse was laid.

Thereafter it was gathered that the DPO for the LGA at Ojongbodu later led the stalwarts of the party back to the venue where Prince Akeem Olukitibi emerged chairman of the party. A mutual agreement was made, which is to share the remaining positions on a consensus arrangement.

According to Daily Post, Mr. Ayoola confirmed the story of the suspected thugs invading the congress at the venue and disrupting their meeting; however, he debunked the report about it claiming any life much less that of the Mr. Idowu Mechanic.

In his statement: “Nobody was killed, please check your facts, go to town and confirm.

“Some thugs came to the venue to prevent the leaders. I was part of the committee, though they throw stones in our direction, we later conducted the Congress.”

“We reported the incident at Ojongbodu. The DPO in charge of Oyo West at Ojongbodu led us to the venue and they ran away. We had the Congress and nobody was killed.”

“I was there, Yes, Alhaji Fatai Obabi, Hon. Mofuff Atilola were there. Alhaji Fatai Obabi was there as the Chairman of the PDP caretaker committee for Oyo West, Hon. Atilola was there as a former Speaker.

“I was there, though I am not from Oyo West, I am from Oyo East as an observer and monitor the Congress, I can tell you, if you have their numbers call them, I can tell you that nobody was killed in Oyo West”.

When contacted, the Public Relation Officer of the State Police Command, Mr. Adekunle Ajisebutu, said he was not even aware of the incident. In his words,  “I am not aware of that”.
