Olisa Metuh Trial: Dasuki Testifies, Claims Amnesia

Sambo Dasuki

Sambo Dasuki appeared in court yesterday and when questioned claimed amnesia.

The former NSA chief, who was brought in by men of the DSS took his stand at the witness box.

Justice Okon Abang, the presiding judge had struck out appeals from both Dasuki and former President Johnathan yesterday enjoining Dasuki to take the stand.

The judge ruled, “I will take the evidence of Col. Dasuki that is in court today,” adding that “the justice of this case demands that it should be dismissed.”

The ex-NSA chief became the eighth witness for the defence team when he took the stand.

Mr Emeka Etiaba (SAN), is the lawyer for Olisa Metuh and he asked the ex-NSA chief questions pertaining to the N400 million paid to Metuh, in 2014.

This line of questioning was to be the first time Dasuki was physically asked about monies marked for arms procurement being diverted to the presidential campaign of the PDP in 2015.

Sambo Dasuki said he could not recall the details of the N400 million paid to Metuh which is part of the charges Etiaba’s client Metuh was facing.

His detention for the past two years prevented him from access to documents that would have aided him in giving any worthwhile evidence for the defence.

When Etiaba asked if the ex-NSA chief could recall any dealings with Metuh and his firm, Destra Investments Limited, Dasuki said, “I cannot confirm if I had any dealings with him from memory.”

“If I have any dealing at all as it relates to this case, it’s not possible that without reference to my record, I cannot respond in a manner that will please you “, he said to Etiaba.

When asked about payments made to Metuh or his company, the witnessed said :

“That will be very difficult for me to give any details of the money paid to Chief Olisa Metuh and the second defendant (Destra Investment Limited) without reference to my records. “Three years is a long time.”

When asked when he could get hold of his documents, the former NSA boss said he did not know.

He further explained “I have four bail court orders and an ECOWAS Court ruling. When they release me, I can go through the records.

“That is when I will be able to give a timeline. As long as I am in detention, the answer is I don’t know.”

At this point, Metuh’s lawyer sought for an adjournment for Dasuki to get his records.

Justice Abang fixed November 3 for a ruling.
