The Summary of results of the Final Bar Examination of students in The Nigerian Law School  was yesterday released.

The examination was conducted in August, 2017.

The Head of Information and Protocol of the Nigerian Law School, Mr Chinedu Ukekwe, made this known in a statement in Bwari, FCT.

Mr Chinedu Ulekwe Pointed out that a total of  about 5,891 students participated in the bar examinations. He stated that while 4,285 were successful, the candidates with conditional ‘Pass’ were totaled at 334 while a total of 1,272 students failed the examination.

Mr Chinedu noted that 29 students were graded First Class, 211 Second Class Upper, 1,046 made Second Class Lower, 2,999 accounted for Pass, while 334 came out with conditional Pass.

He also further stated a breakdown of the results showed that candidates with Pass accounted for 72.7 per cent, those with conditional Pass represented 5. 7 per cent, while those who failed were 21.6 per cent.

There have been a few students who have voiced their concerns over the fact that they believed  it is very difficult to pass the law school examinations let alone making a first class.

A law student, who goes by the name ”Oludare Subomi Onokoya”  and who had made first class in the previous  September 2016 Law School examination had this to say:

“It wasn’t easy, but I won’t say it was too difficult either. It has a lot to do with mindset and believing that all obstacles are surmountable if a person is determined enough.”

For some students, the syllabus, the grade scheme and the too many practicals are the many hurdles students have to cross to get a first class honour in the institution, where having a first class is a rare dream.

Nevertheless, Oludare Subomi Onokoya said it took discipline, determination and hard work to get him there and ofcourse God. He said:

“God helped me, and discipline was very key. I was able to set out time for reading and personal time, and during those periods, I always kept my gadgets far away from me. Also, when I was in class, I ensured that my phone was always silent in my pocket so as not to be distracted. It wasn’t easy, but I believe when you have your eyes on a prize, it’s not so difficult to shut out distractions.’

Despite the unfortunate results of the young Nigerian lawyers who were unable to make it through, Mr Chinedu Ulekwe in the statement revealed that the ‘Call to the Bar’ ceremony for the successful candidates will hold on November. 28th and 29th in Abuja.

We wish all graduating students, success.
