On Tuesday, the Governors of the 36 States, met with President Buhari in Abuja, asking the President to add the largess of the Paris Club refund about 50% into their 2018 budget appropriations.

The Governors who were at the Presidential Villa under the auspices of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), met with President Buhari behind closed doors, were the request was made.

The group led by the Chairman and Governor of Zamfara State, Abdullaziz Yari brought to mind that the Presidency disbursed N760.17 billion.

This amount came in two batches on May 4 this year in partial settlement of long standing claims relating to over-deduction from their allocations from the Federation Account for external debt servicing between 1995 and 2002.

It is worth the note that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), had ‎last month, urged President Buhari not to release the third and final tranche of the largesse to the governors until they make a commitment to settle all outstanding salaries, allowances and pensions of workers and retirees with the fund.Governor Yari said “Our mission here is simple. We are here to thank Mr. President for his concern about the state of the economy by giving us several supports ranging from bail outs, restructuring of our debts to the London- Paris Club exit payment”.The statement also stated that financial reconciliation had been on going since 2016, hoping that the Ministry of Finance, AGF, and Debt Manangment Office would be done by November

“So, we want to crave your indulgence that we factor in the numbers into our 2018 budgets so that we can use it for projects and other recurrent spending according to the specification given by our respective House of Assembly and that is why we are here.” the statement read.President Buhari however expressed concern over the complaint from various quarters over unpaid salaries, stating that he was worried about the plight of the citizens affected.
