The deceased were five women, and they have been killed in the crises between the Itim-Amagu people of Ebony state and the Adadama people of Cross Rivers State.

The two communities share a boundary and have been in a perennial dispute for a while now, which had claimed hundreds of lives and had destroyed a lot of properties.

The Local Government chairman of Ikwo, Mr John Nnabo confirmed this yesterday when he stated that the five deceased persons were from Ikwo. He stated that the victims were found beheaded while he declared that three were missing.

Mr John Nnabo said that he was called on Thursday by his Vice, to speak to him about the incident. When asked how it happened, he narrated that the deceased was said to have gone to the area to uproot cassava and other food crops, and then, they were surrounded by the Adadama warlords who in their anger unleashed mayhem on them.

He stated thus: “It is true. I was called on Thursday morning by my Vice Chairman. Five women were killed and beheaded. We have recovered their corpses. Three persons are still missing. Our people went to uproot their cassava and other crops thinking that the war has subsided without gunshots for a long time”.

“As they were in the farm, the Adadama people surrounded them, killed and beheaded them. They will always cross the river to humiliate us”.

He also pointed that this was an issue that has prolonged for some time, stating that the Adadama people would always cross their side, just to humiliate them.

Comrade Chinedu, who is an Ikwo stakeholder and National Coordinator of Buhari/Osibanjo Initiative For Demonstrating Change, called on the federal government and the National Boundary Commission, to take quick and urgent steps to delineate the boundary to forestall further loss of lives and property in the area.

He also sympathized with the deceased families, assuring them resolutions are on-going to stop the dispute between the communities and to ensure that peace and stability return to the community.

He challenged security agencies to makes sure that security for the protection of lives and properties be made a priority, in order to stop such incidence from happening again.
