Everton Sack Manager Ronald Koeman

Everton sack Ronald Koeman

Everton Football Club have this afternoon sacked their Dutch Manager, Ronald Koeman

The sack does not come as much of a surprise following the club’s poor start to the season

Koeman’s fate it would seem was sealed after yesterday’s 5-2 loss to Arsenal at Goodison Park

The game started brightly for the Everton side with Wayne Rooney scoring against the run of play inside 15minutes

It didn’t however get any better for Everton, as Arsenal rallied to a resounding victory.

A statement said the club “would like to express their gratitude to Ronald for the service he has given to the club over the past 16 months”

The defeat to Arsenal, leaves the Everton side in the relegation zone(18th).

“I still believe I can change the whole situation,” Koeman had said after the match on Sunday.

His sacking is another reminder of how unforgiving the Premier League can be, when results do not come.

He became the third Premier League managerial casualty of the season after Frank de Boer left Crystal Palace and Craig Shakespeare was sacked by Leicester

Koeman was brought in to replace Roberto Martinez 16 months ago and had a good end to last season finishing 7th

This season saw Everton invest heavily in the summer, spending  £140m in the transfer market with top 4 in sights

However it was not be as their slow start to the season coupled with dismal Europa League showings have spoiled the mood around the club.

The question though remains, who is to blame?… Ronald Koeman did say that if things go wrong the Manager is always to blame.

One could argue for the Dutch, last season Everton had more attacking flair and purpose in their play.

There was after all a certain Lukaku who is now at Manchester United scoring for fun.

This season however a recognized striker is absent. Rooney wont score 25 goals anymore, and they system and the players did not seem to be working together.

Europa League qualification is a big ask for the Everton side after a loss to Lyon and a draw at Apollon Limassol left them bottom of their group.

Who ever the new Manager would be, the Premier League is likely to be the main focus.

Cheer up Evertonians there is still a lot of footballing to be done. Sad to see Koeman leave though.
