The Europa League once again served up an entertainment in the continent’s second tier competition.
There were shockers, expected results and a few disappointing results across the league last night.
The Europa League did not provide the respite that Ronald Koeman would have wanted for his Everton side.
The Dutch saw his side lose at home to French side Lyon, in a poor 1st half from the English side.
Koeman who earlier in the week received the backing from the Everton board can not be happy with the loss
Everton went behind early in the 6th minute from a Nabil Fekir penalty and looked poor for most of the half
In the 2nd stanza they were much better as they found their rhythm and Williams equalized after a scuffle earlier involving members of both teams.
When asked if the defeat increased the scrutiny on his position, Koeman said: ‘Of course. If the team is not winning and if the team is not performing when maybe they can, then it’s always the manager.”
Arsenal who are the next visitors at Goodison Park on Sunday in the Premier League did enough to win in Serbia
The London side whose opponents Crvena Zvezda made the match a spectacle had chances to score as well.
Both Keepers Cech for Arsenal and Borjan for the Zvezda side ensured parity at half time.
However a spectacular over head kick from Olivier Giroud secured the points and top spot for Arsenal
“I think what is remarkable is the spirit that we have shown and fighting together,” said Wenger Arsenal’s boss
