EFL Cup: Arsenal, Man City, Man U, Leicester Make Progress

The EFL Cup which is known as the ‘Carabao Cup’ this season had its 4th round matches yesterday, and will be concluded today.

Whilst many of the Premier League sides left in the draw were expected to have an easy night, it was however not a stroll in the park.

Arsenal (true to recent fashion) left it late before sealing victory at the Emirates Stadium.

New signing Edward Nketiah, proved to be undoing for Norwich, who went ahead and could have sealed the game early on.

The Arsenal player came off the bench to score twice to seal a win for Wenger’s men.

The Carabao Cup holders, Manchester United, are also through to the quarter finals.

Their opponents on the night Swansea are on a poor run of form losing 4 of 5 home games in the league this season.

They like Man U fielded a much changed side from the weekend’s game in a hope to galvanize the team’s morale.

However it was Man U, through Jesse Lingard who stole the headlines, with 2 goals in each half to seal the victory.

Man City were expected to run riot against their opponents on the night, but it was not to be so.

Pep Guardiola’s men were faced with an impressive defensive display from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

City’s goalkeeper Claudio Bravo was impressive on the night.

The much-maligned Bravo came to his side’s rescue on three occasions in one-on-one situations, denying Helder Costa in between two saves from Bright Enobakhare.

Wolves became the first team this season to stop Man City from scoring, and would eventually lose on penalties.

  • Arsenal 2 vs Norwich  1

  • Bournemouth 3 vs Middlesbrough 1

  • Bristol City 4 vs Crystal Palace 1

  • Leicester 3 vs Leeds 1

  • Swansea 0 vs Man Utd 2

  • Man City 0 vs Wolves 0

AETManchester City win 4-1 on penalties.

The surprise on was Crystal Palace’s defeat away to Championship side Bristol City.

Palace are bottom of the Premier League, and this game could have boosted morale.

These are trying times for the Manager Roy Hodgson.

Later tonight there will hostilities on display at the EFL Cup as Chelsea go up against Everton, and Tottenham and West Ham meet at Wembley Stadium.
