Claude Puel Appointed as Leicester City Manager

Claude Puel new boss for LCFC

Claude Puel has been  made the new manager of Leicester City Football Club.

The former Southampton boss has been signed on a three and half year deal.

Joining Leicester, Claude Puel becomes the third manager of the club in during this calendar year.

Previous managers Craig Shakespeare and Claudio Ranieri were both sacked because of poor performances by the team.

Claude Puel

Puel, oversaw Southampton finishing 8th in the Premier League in his first season, and steering the side to the EFL Cup final.

He was however sacked in June.

Reports have it that interim manager Micheal Appleton, will remain as his assistant.

Appleton was placed in charge after Craig Shakespeare was fired, four months after he had sealed a deal to manage the club for three and half years.

Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha who is the club’s Vice-Chairman described Claude Puel as a “perfect fit”.

“Upon meeting Claude, his attention to detail, knowledge of our squad, understanding of our potential and his vision to help us realise it were extremely impressive,”

“He quickly emerged as the outstanding candidate and I am delighted we will have the opportunity to reinforce our long-term vision, aided significantly by his expertise.” The Vice-Chairman said.

Claude Puel who was a former manager at Lyon, Lille and Monaco, spent 4 years in Nice before leaving to take over from Ronald Koeman at Southampton.

It is interesting to note however, that whilst Southampton did finish in the top 10, and reached the EFL final where they lost 3-2 to Manchester United, there were 16 losses in the League.

That is a huge number, and for a team like Leicester who have tasted Champions League football, it might not be good omens for them to lose that many games.

Puel was sacked after just one win in their last six games of the season and with a very poor goal scoring record, one goal in six games.

Will the Frenchman be able to find and develop the form that saw Leicester winning the title two seasons ago? Only time will tell.

His new side are 14th on the log, with just 2 wins out of 12. Its left to be seen if a revolution will occur, but they need to climb up the log before Christmas.
