Details got from the Tuesday meeting attended by the National Executive Committee, NEC, APC, and three prominent members of the party’s National Working Committee, NWC, claimed that President Buhari indicated that the seat be open for others who desire to contest. This was thrown soon after NEC kicked off and motions were being moved for consideration by party leaders.

According to the discussions; the automatic second term ticket for Buhari was the first of agenda, which was moved by Alhaji Nosiru, who is a party chieftain from the North, and former Zamfara state governor, Senator Ahmad Sani Yerima, seconded the motion.

During this time, some state party chairmen were at the back of the hall chanting ‘No vacancy in Aso Rock!’

President Buhari was seen gesticulating with two hands, pleading that the motion be stepped down, saying that there it should not be closed for other aspirants, who may indicate interest to run for presidential elections in the platform of the party. He intervened during their uproar after the motion was moved and seconded, saying that there was no need because he didn’t want democratic space closed.

The President stated thus: ‘’Let’s allow others to contest, that Is the beauty of democracy’’.

A party  leader from the Northwest who is also a member of national caucus of the APC confirmed this when he stated also that:

“It was after the President’s intervention that Imo state governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha in his capacity as the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum moved the second motion seeking to pass a vote of confidence on Buhari and the party’s leadership. Okorocha assured the President that while moving his motion that all the APC governors were ready to go to any length with Buhari and that he can rest assured they will give his aspiration full support and en-bloc”.

Mr. Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, also confirmed what transpired in the NEC meeting.  According to Him, “The National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held at the party’s secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday. I was there. The atmosphere was friendly, almost convivial. At a point, someone moved a motion of confidence in the Buhari administration. The seconder, a former state governor, added to the motion, seeking an endorsement of the President as candidate for second term in 2019. As he raised the motion, I saw the President gesturing, with his two palms downwards. The gesture meant, please, cool down, not now. This is premature. And the National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, weighed in, accepting the motion of confidence, and deferring the one on automatic candidacy. Everyone was satisfied.”

Adding that despite what the media is reporting, it was President Buhari who rejected the offer of the second them and not the governors who did.

He said ‘’ it was the President himself who had dissuaded those who made the move, by his gesture.’’

President Buhari second term bid went into full swing when his close allies opened up a opened a secretariat for the Buhari Support Organization, BSO in Abuja from where the re-election campaign activities of the President will be coordinated.

However, former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar said that only Nigerians will determine the fate of the President.

Mr. Paul Ibe said his boss stands with Nigerians on whatever that will better the country and make democracy clean and fair.

It was speculated by an aide of Atiku’s, who prefers to remain anonymous that Atiku running for 2019 elections were mere ‘’Speculations”, stressing that there are processes to be followed if he wanted to run for 2019, and as such those processes have been yet to be activated.

When asked the steps, he said that Atiku must seek the face of God, consult his family and meet with key political associates and friends before seeking elections. So far, he said the politician was yet to take any of the steps.

However, he Challenged the President to publicly declare his interest in the 2019 presidential elections instead of speaking through his aids.
