Bejide To Pres. Buhari: Paying Salaries Directly Stops Mismanagement of Bailout Funds

Chief Dare Bejide, has said the only effective way by which mismanagement of bailout funds can be stopped by the federal government was for the federal government to devise ways to which workers can be paid their salaries directly from Abuja. Stating that the governors won’t have the normal access to the funds to misuse them if it were given to them like before.

Bejide, who is a former Nigerian High Commissioner to Canada and presently a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP ), in a chat with newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, described the situation as worrisome, where he states that more than two-thirds of states could not meet their financial obligations to workers.

He further stressed why by explaining that many state executives preferred to embark on capital projects which have no direct bearing on the lives of the masses and as such should be stopped.

He said “Almost two- thirds of the states were owing and the fund is meant to settle the backlog of salaries. But, unfortunately, it is like most of the governors diverted the funds for various capital projects.

“And this is why we still have the problems till now. Even in Ekiti State pensioners are yet to be paid, as well as workers. May be, the Federal Government would ask for the details of outstanding salaries from states and pay directly into workers and pensioners accounts, instead of giving it to the governors.

Still bearing on the topic, Bejjde disclosed that he remains the aspirant to beat in the party, claiming his status as the most senior and experienced PDP aspirant in Ekiti today.

He said “Well, as far as I am concerned, PDP is the party to beat in Ekiti, in the sense that Ekiti once experienced the leadership of APC. It is very easy for an average Ekiti man to choose between APC and PDP.

“If you look at the governorship aspirants in APC today, many of them are from the PDP. They left because of the style of leadership of Governor Fayose. And soon as they see somebody like me emerge as the candidate of the PDP, I can assure you that they will all come back. Our party has the noticeable presence all over the state,” he added.
