We will begin with the most popular theory about Valentine’s Day origin of how Bishop Valentine went against the wishes of Emperor Claudius II. The Emperor made a rule that Roman men should not marry during war times, yet the Bishop Valentine performed secret weddings, so he was jailed and executed. While in jail he wrote a note to the jailer’s daughter signing it “from your Valentine”.

Meet 4 Foreign Based Nigerian Artistes Who Are Making Waves In Nigeria

It is no longer news that a lot of A-list Nigerian artistes have left several foreign countries to ply their music trade in the shores of Nigeria.

For instance, artistes like D’bang, Don Jazzy, Tiwa Savage, Seyi Shey, Naeto C among others started their music careers off the shores of Nigeria before returning home to create a base for their music.

Some new set of Nigerian artists have started blossoming music careers in diaspora countries and still getting some level of attention and radio rotation in Nigeria.

Here are four young Nigerians living abroad but still making waves:

1. Nonso Amadi

Nonso Amadi started his music career when he was schooling at covenant University Ota in 2012 before he moved to the UK  to continue his studies at Swansea University.

Nnoso Amadi also bagged his Master’s degree from McMaster’s University, Canada, he’s currently based in Canada.

He released his first body of work titled  “Alone EP” in September 2015 and months later released a monster hit that placed his name on the lips of many Nigerians titled ”Tonight”.

In 2017, Nonso Amadi collaborated with another industry delight Odunsi “The Engine” to release an EP titled ‘War’. Sounds off the EP enjoyed massive airplay across the country.

Nonso operates under the RnB genre of music, he has also disclosed that he draws his motivation from the legendary John Bellion.

2. Moelogo

Muhammed Animashaun popularly known as Moelogo is another Nigerian making great music off the shores of Nigeria.

The British-Nigerian songwriter left the shores of Nigeria where he was born for South London in 2001.

Moelogo first major hit was in 2013 when he released  “Pangolo,” after which he released an EP titled ‘Ìréti’, a 5-song. EP “Ìréti” translates to “Hope” in his native Yoruba language.

Despite Moelogo’s long stay outside the shores of Nigeria, he has not lost touch with his African background as most of his songs are laced with properly spoken Yoruba.

The most distinguishing factor about Moelogo is the ability to make outstanding music irrespective of the genre. RnB, POP, Afropop. Alternative sounds and others are play tools in the hands of this young man.

His standout track from the  Ìréti EP ‘Penkele’ has top acts like Davido and Sarkodie on the remix.

Moelogo has a new song featuring the new age, King Sunny Ade, Adekunle Gold titled happy.

3. Tenie Makanaki

Teniola Apata popularly known as Tenie Makanaki started her career in 2016 when she started to release video’s of her singing and freestyling across all social media platforms.

For those who are coversant with Teni, she plays around with sounds made by great men who have made an impact in the industry like Osadebe, Wasiu Ayinde.

Teni who is the sister to popular musician Niniola is a graduate of University of Georgia, USA.

Last year Teni released a hit banger ‘Fargin’ which has been enjoying massive airplay since it was released.

In an era where the entertainment scene has been clouted by sexiness Teni’s brand is been generally accepted for her famous tomboy display.

In 2017, she claimed that she wrote the song ‘Like that’ for Africa’s biggest musician Davido which generated a lot of controversy on social media.

Teni who is signed to Dr Dolor entertainment has a new single and video titled ‘Pareke’.

4. Maleek Berry

Birth-named Maleek Shonubi, popular artiste/producer Maleek Berry was born in South London to Nigerian parents  in the late 80’s.

He found his way to the top scene of the Nigerian music industry as a producer with his top notch production skill on songs like Sinzu’s Carolina, Wizkid’s Matter among other top jams. He was signed under Wizkid’ds StarBoy records in 2013.

Maleek Berry as a music artiste infuses Grime and Pop into the typical Nigerian sound and that has distinguished him in an industry where there are too many people doing the same thing.

Maleek Berry who recently released his EP titled ‘Last Daze of summer’ won the artist of the year award at the 2017 editions of MOBO  and Sound City MVP awards respectively.

Last year he was featured on one of the biggest songs in the industry ‘juice’ by Tinny Entertainment artiste Ycee.

Rivers state has recently been detected unsafe by an application used to determine the safety level of air around the globe.
